Rising 600-plus feet above the Seattle Center, the Space Needle is the city’s most famous landmark, and dining at the revolving restaurant offers guests great food and an amazing 360-degree view of the mountains, Elliott Bay and Seattle neighborhoods.

Dining with a view at the revolving SkyCity Restaurant in Seattle's Space Needle

Enjoy the best view in Seattle while dining at the rotating SkyCity Restaurant at the top of the Space Needle. Built in 1962 for the World Expo, the entire restaurant moves 360 degrees giving you a different view of the city with each of your courses. Of course, you get there by shooting up, up, up in a glass elevator – beautiful! And when you dine, the elevator ride and O Deck (Observation Deck) is no extra charge!

Start with an appetizer, Dungeness Crab Cakes, and watch float planes land on Lake Union. Move on to a Baby Spinach Salad while ferries cross Elliott Bay.

While you are distracted by Seattle’s city streets buzzing with activity, your Grilled Wild King Salmon will arrive.

Chef Jeff Maxfield brings in lots of local flavors and ingredients, such as the salmon. The price is a bit higher, but combining the view with the food makes it worth a few extra bucks.

In between the window and your dining table, read notes left by other diners – mostly commenting on where guests came from. While we were there, we discovered another family from Denver by reading theirs. It creates more adventure for your dining experience.

Speaking of adventure, save room for the Space Needle’s legendary famous Lunar Orbiter Dessert, served since the Space Needle first opened in 1962.  The Lunar Orbiter is a generous portion of locally made ice cream covered in hot fudge or raspberry coulis, served on dry ice. When the server brings the dish to the table, they pour hot water on the dry ice and poof… dry ice fog covers the table.

Make sure you step out onto the O Deck to get a breath of fresh air – and an unobstructed view of Seattle. Environmental graphics around the outer edge of the level and informative displays identify what you’re looking at. You can also get closer to the action by peering into the complimentary Swarovski Telescopes.

SkyCity at Seattle’s Space Needle is one of my family’s favorite attractions in Seattle. Anytime we can add a view with a Seattle restaurant experience, count us in.
